When to use it

Choosing the settings
- Clip length: GIF size grows quickly with length. Keep just the key moment, around 2–6 seconds, and check it with 'Play Selection'.
- Frame rate: 15 FPS is the recommended balance of smoothness and size. Screen recordings with little motion look fine at 10 FPS, while fast action looks more natural at 20 FPS.
- Output width: 320–480px for chat and mobile, 640px for documents and larger screens.
Good to know
- GIF is limited to 256 colors, so colors can look simpler than in the original video. Keeping the clip short usually gives better results for the size than making it wider.
- If the GIF is too large, run it through GIF Compress. If you only need part of the frame, use Video to GIF Crop to trim both time and area.
- Any video your browser can play, such as MP4 or WebM, can be converted, and it is never uploaded to a server.
