What does GIF Overlay do?

It layers one GIF (the effect) on top of another GIF (the background), compositing them into a single synced animation.

Does the effect GIF need a transparent background?

For best results, yes. Effect GIFs with transparent backgrounds (like sparkles, confetti, or glitch overlays) blend cleanly. Opaque effect GIFs will simply cover the background beneath them.

What happens if the two GIFs have different lengths?

The shorter GIF loops to match the length of the longer one, so both layers keep animating for the full output.

Can I resize or reposition the overlay?

Yes. Use the Scale slider to resize the effect layer, and the position sliders to place it anywhere within the frame.

Can I adjust how transparent the overlay is?

Yes. The Opacity slider blends the effect layer with the background beneath it.

Is my original GIF modified?

No. A new combined GIF is created in your browser. Both source files remain unchanged.

What happens if I don't use a transparent effect GIF?

The effect GIF will simply cover the background GIF as an opaque layer. Lowering the opacity slider can still blend the two, but a transparent PNG-style GIF gives the cleanest result.

Can I use the same GIF as both background and effect?

Yes, there's no restriction on using identical files for both slots, though the effect is usually most noticeable with two different animations.

Why does my overlay look shifted after resizing?

The Position X/Y sliders are relative to the overlay's current size, so resizing first and then repositioning gives more predictable placement.

Can I undo changes after applying the overlay?

Yes, use the back option to return to the adjustment screen and change scale, opacity, or position, then re-render without re-uploading your files.
