How does Screen to GIF work?

It uses the browser's Screen Capture API (getDisplayMedia) to record your screen, tab, or window, then converts the recording to an animated GIF.

Do I need to install any software?

No. Screen recording and GIF conversion both happen in your browser with no extensions or plugins required.

Can I record a specific window instead of the whole screen?

Yes. When the browser prompts you to choose what to share, select 'Window' to record only a specific application window.

What is the maximum recording duration?

There is no hard limit, but longer recordings produce larger GIFs. For best results, keep recordings under 30 seconds.

Why is the recorded GIF blurry?

GIF supports only 256 colors and lossy color quantization. For sharp screen recordings, reduce the recording area size or use fewer unique colors on screen.

Can I record audio with Screen to GIF?

No. GIF format does not support audio. The recording captures video only.

Does recording affect my screen performance?

Minimal impact. The capture runs in a background thread. For CPU-intensive tasks, close other browser tabs during recording.

Is my screen recording stored on a server?

No. The recording is captured and converted entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored remotely.

Can I set the recording frame rate?

The capture frame rate can be adjusted in the tool settings. Lower FPS (10–15) produces smaller GIF files.

Why did permission get denied for screen recording?

Your operating system may block screen capture for certain apps. On macOS, go to System Preferences → Privacy → Screen Recording and grant permission to your browser.
