What loop modes are available?

Three modes: Infinite (loops forever), Once (plays once then stops), and Custom (plays a specific number of times you set).

What does 'loop count 0' mean?

In the GIF specification, a loop count of 0 in the Netscape Application Extension means infinite looping. This is the standard for GIFs that never stop.

Does changing loop count affect file size?

No. The loop count is stored in a tiny metadata block (Netscape extension). Changing it has negligible effect on file size.

Why does my GIF still loop infinitely after setting 'Once'?

Some browsers and apps ignore the loop count and always loop. Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp typically loop all GIFs regardless of loop settings.

Can I set a loop count greater than 65535?

No. The GIF specification stores loop count as a 16-bit unsigned integer, so the maximum is 65535. Use 0 for infinite.

Does 'Once' mean the GIF disappears after playing?

After playing once, the GIF freezes on the last frame. The behavior after that depends on the viewer application.

Is the original GIF modified?

No. A new GIF with the updated loop setting is created. Your original file is unchanged.

What if my GIF has no Netscape loop extension?

GIFs without a Netscape extension play once by default in most browsers. The tool adds the extension when setting any loop count.

Can I make a GIF play 3 times then stop?

Yes. Set Custom loop count to 3. The GIF will play 3 times in browsers that respect the loop extension.

Will social platforms respect my loop setting?

Most social platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, WhatsApp) ignore GIF loop counts and always loop. The setting is most effective when embedding GIFs in web pages.
